PNP rolls out heightened security plan for Chinese New Year celebration

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said heightened security measures are in place across Metro Manila and other cities nationwide for the Chinese New Year celebration on Tuesday.

In a statement, PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police organization “has prepared the necessary security measures for this activity not only in Metro Manila but also in other parts of the country.”

“We have mobilized units for crowd management and anti-criminality patrols to ensure that our Filipino-Chinese community and the general public can celebrate safely,” he added.

According to Nartatez, the PNP will implement a maximum presence posture, particularly in Binondo and other high-traffic areas expected to draw large crowds during the festivities.

Police units have been mobilized to handle crowd management and conduct anti-criminality patrols.

For immediate emergency response and public concerns, police assistance desks will be set up at strategic locations near major temples, commercial centers, and activity venues.

The Manila Police District (MPD) is coordinating with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for traffic management, road closures, and rerouting schemes, including routes near the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge and Jones Bridge.

Motorists are advised to take alternative routes and expect temporary traffic adjustments during the occasion.

Outside Metro Manila, regional police offices have been directed to increase police visibility in Chinatown districts and other urban centers.

Intelligence units are directed to check potential threats and organized crime groups that may attempt to take advantage of the large gatherings.
