PH Army: Mongao to face general court martial
Colonel Audie Mongao is set to face the General Court Martial following reports that he allegedly withdrew support from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., the Philippine Army said Monday.
At a press conference, Philippine Army chief Lieutenant General Antonio Nafarrete said this is for the offense of Article 63 or the "Disrespect toward the President, Vice-President, National Assembly under the Articles of War."
“Tapos na po 'yung investigation sa kanya sa [Training Command] and he's already here for General Court Martial. We are already preparing for it. Nagme-meeting pa 'yung composition. Meron nang pinirmahan sa composition and it will be malapit na,” Nafarrete said.
(The investigation at Training Command is completed and he's already here for General Court Martial. We are already preparing for it. The composition is still having a meeting. There has been an order on the composition and it will be conducted soon.)
“Siyempre Articles of War 'yun, disrespect (Of course, it's under the Articles of War, disrespect),” he added.
Mongao has been relieved as commander of the Training Support Group after a statement circulated on social media that he has withdrawn his support from the President.
He is a senior officer in the Philippine Army whose career spans over three decades, largely focused on training, doctrine development, and field command.
