On Feb. 25 EDSA anniversary, groups to press for accountability amid corruption
Several groups from different sectors will call for accountability amid the corruption, poverty, and political dynasties hounding the country on the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on February 25.
In a press conference on Wednesday, the groups said participants will converge at the White Plains, Edsa Shrine, and Edsa-Ortigas areas to attend coordinated programs such as Masses and concerts.
“Forty years after 1986, the same problems persist, only more entrenched,” BAYAN said in a statement.
“While politicians and favored contractors grow richer, the people continue to endure high prices, stagnant wages, job insecurity, and devastating floods and other calamities. Exploitation and oppression deepen while impunity reigns,” it added.
This is amid the public’s frustration over the alleged misuse of public funds, failure to address poverty, unemployment, and social services, and ongoing concerns about political dynasties.
The organizers assured that the gatherings will be peaceful and that more than 30,000 people are expected to participate in the anti-corruption gatherings.
The protest on February 25 is a follow-up to the big protests held on September 21 and November 30 last year amid the flood control mess.
“On February 25, we build on the momentum of the September 21 and November 30, 2025, anti-corruption mobilizations,” BAYAN said.
“We go back to the Parliament of the Streets to demand accountability up to the two highest officials of the land. We demand the prompt prosecution of all corrupt lawmakers and executive officials involved in the flood control anomalies,” it added.
Earlier, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said 11,000 cops will be deployed for the February 25 rallies, touted as the third Trillion Peso March.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said it will be on full alert beginning February 21 in preparation for the upcoming EDSA People Power anniversary and the planned Trillion Peso March protests. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
