Who is Melvin Matibag? Ex-Duterte Cab sec picked as new NBI chief
A known ally of former President Rodrigo Duterte has been named as the new director of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) under the Marcos administration.
According to Malacañang, President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. sees lawyer Melvin Matibag trustworthy and capable of serving in the government.
In 2023, Matibag resigned as Secretary General of the PDP-Laban, the political party chaired by Marcos' predecessor.
Back then, Matibag did not specify the reason why he resigned from the post but said he was grateful for the trust bestowed upon him.
To recall, Matibag served as Cabinet Secretary during Duterte’s term. He replaced Karlo Nograles who was appointed as chairperson of the Civil Service Commission.
Some of Matibag's previous assignments were with the Manila International Airport Authority as the general manager and National Transmission Corporation as its president.
Matibag also served as legal instructor with several universities in the Philippines.
