Leni Robredo: No politics in Marcos meeting

Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo has expressed certainty that President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. would not bring up political matters when they meet on Saturday.

According to Darlene Cay's report on "24 Oras," Robredo repeatedly said that she was focused on the issues confronting her city amid speculations of an alliance after Vice President Sara Duterte announced her plan to run for president in 2028.

"Ako sigurado akong hindi siya magbi-bring up ng politics kasi alam ko na trabaho 'yung sadya niya dito," Robredo said.

(I'm sure he won't bring up politics because I know he'd be here for work matters.)

Marcos and Robredo are set to meet over the weekend for the implementation of Oplan Kontra Baha in Naga City, Camarines Sur.

Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro told reporters in a press briefing on Thursday that Marcos' scheduled visit to Naga City on Saturday, February 21, is in relation to the government's flood mitigation measures.

“Hindi ’to pulitika, at saka ang layo pa ng election. Hindi pa nga ako nagwa-one year sa puwesto ko, di pa umiinit yung upuan ko, tapos pulitika na agad… Magtrabaho muna tayo," Robredo said.

"Sobrang focused ako sa mga problema ng Naga. 'Yung farthest from my mind 'yung mga pag-uusap sa Maynila. Ang primary obligation ko ay yung trabahong pinag-applyan ko. Malayo pa yung eleksyon,” she added.

Robredo also shared that any politician, regardless of affiliations, was welcome to visit Naga City as long as they would be able to help solve the city’s problems.

Following Duterte’s announcements, talks of a possible Marcos-Robredo alliance was raised with mixed responses from political parties and experts.

Malacañang had already called for a stop to political discourse resulting from Duterte’s announcement, noting that Marcos wanted an orderly, progressive, and trustworthy Philippines.

“Huwag munang gumawa ng imahinasyon. Mag-focus sa kanyang-kanyang trabaho para hindi maligaw sa tamang mithiin… Tumigil muna ang lahat sa pamumulitika,” said Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Attorney Claire Castro.
