NCRPO: 'No permit, no rally' policy for 40th EDSA People Power anniv
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said Sunday it would implement a "no permit, no rally" policy for the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on February 25 as various groups prepare to launch separate protest actions.
"Ipatutupad natin ang no permit, no rally since kailangan nating makapag-prepare dahil dalawang malaking pagtitipon ito," NCRPO spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo told Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday.
(We will implement a 'no permit, no rally' policy since we need to prepare for the two major gatherings.)
This developed as several groups from different sectors expressed plans to hold a third iteration of the Trillion Peso March on Wednesday, February 25, to protest corruption in government and political dynasties.
"Ang nabigyan ng permit ay isang grupo mula sa Trillion Peso March Movement," Asilo said. "Nabigyan sila ng permit para sa February 25, para mag-conduct ng programa sa may White Plains."
(The group from the Trillion Peso March Movement was granted a permit to conduct their program in White Plains.)
People Power's 'permit'
In a social media post, the Koalisyon Makabayan said it plans to push through with its protest along EDSA on Wednesday—with or without a permit.
"Tuloy ang laban. Tuloy ang protesta. May permit man o wala," Koalisyon Makabayan said in a Facebook post.
(The fight continues. On with the protest. With or without a permit.)
"EDSA People Power never needed a permit, we won't too. Tuloy ang protesta sa Peb. 25! (The protest on Feb. 25 will continue!)" the group said in its post.
Asilo said NCRPO will deploy 14,000 cops to ensure public safety during the protest.
She added that NCRPO will also monitor any protests held in other parts of Metro Manila. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
