Five Senior Citizen Community Centers (SCCs) are expected to be completed in 2026, the Department of Public Works and Highways said Tuesday.

Speaking to GMA News Online, Ara Charise Salcedo of the Department of Public Works and Highways Planning Services Office said three facilities are in Western Visayas and one each in Zamboanga Peninsula and CALABRAZON.

Meanwhile, National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) chairperson Ma. Meceditas Gutierrez urged more local government units (LGUs) to establish SC3Cs in their respective areas to provide more services to senior citizens.

“We are all calling LGUs, cities, and municipalities to establish additional senior citizen centers for our seniors,” Gutierrez said during a press conference in Intramuros, Manila.

She reported that NCSC has established 15 SCCs nationwide since 2024.

Based on the document provided by NCSC, 12 of the SCCs were launched in 2025.

Facilitated by the LGUs, the SCC is a hub that offers programs and services focusing on health, livelihood, social inclusion, and employment assistance to senior citizens in partnership with national government agencies. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
