LTO: No new rules for senior citizens getting driver’s licenses

LTO: No new rules for senior citizens getting driver’s licenses

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Wednesday said it did not promulgate new rules on issuing driver’s licenses for senior citizens, contrary to videos on social media that claim otherwise.

In a post on its Facebook page, the LTO debunked as fake news such videos claiming that new rules on driver’s licenses for the elderly will be in effect starting March 1.

“WALANG KATOTOHANAN ang kumakalat na impormasyon o ‘video’ sa social media tungkol sa mga umano’y ‘Bagong Driver’s License Rules Para Sa Senior Citizens Simula March 1, 2026,’” the agency said.

(There is no truth to the information or video on social media about supposed new driver’s license rules for senior citizens starting March 1, 2026.)

“Ang mga pahayag sa nasabing video hinggil sa bagong medical requirements, mas mahigpit na renewal process, o anumang pagbabago sa validity period para sa mga senior driver simula sa petsang nabanggit ay HINDI OPISYAL at HINDI TAMA,” the LTO added.

(The statements in the said video about supposedly new medical requirements, stricter renewal processes, or any change in the validity period for senior drivers are unofficial and incorrect.)

The agency stressed that it has not released any directive or memorandum on new or additional guidelines for senior citizens securing their driver’s licenses starting March, and that the current policies and process will remain in effect.

The LTO urged the public to be critical and not to easily believe unofficial statements.

It advised the public to follow the LTO’s official Facebook account at https://www.facebook.com/LTOPhilippines and its official website at https://lto.gov.ph/ for correct and updated information about the LTO’s policies and services. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
