Marcos visits 'mechanized' Visayas Disaster Resource Center in Cebu
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Thursday inspected the mechanized production center of the Visayas Disaster Resource Center (VDRC) in Mandaue City, Cebu.
Accompanied by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian during the visit, Marcos said the repacking center has been improved with machinery, noting that the operations here are no longer manual.
''So, patuloy lang ang production nito hanggang umabot ng mga 5 million. Lampas ng mga 5 million. Pero malaking tulong itong pagkagawa. Ito, pinagawa pa natin, pina-design natin, itong mga machine na ito, para talaga sa Pilipinas,'' Marcos told reporters.
(We will just continue production until it reaches 5 million or more than five million. This is a huge help for the Philippines.)
''At ito, mayroon tayo sa Luzon, ito ‘yung para sa Visayas at saka Mindanao,'' the President added.
(We have one in Luzon, and this facility is designated for Visayas and Mindanao.)
A separate facility will be constructed as well in Butuan City, Marcos said.
The VDRC serves as the primary production, storage, and logistics hub for disaster response operations in the regions of Visayas and Mindanao.
This facility plays a critical role in ensuring the timely preparation and distribution of relief goods to communities affected by natural disasters, public health emergencies, and other crises.
It was in July 2025 when the VDRC had strengthened its disaster response capabilities by establishing a new Mechanized Production System (MPS) featuring state-of-the-art automatic vacuum packaging lines. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
