LTFRB kicks off program to encourage public to report PUV-related abuses

LTFRB kicks off program to encourage public to report PUV-related abuses

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Monday launched an information campaign to encourage commuters to report abuses of public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators.

In a statement, LTFRB chair Vigor Mendoza II said the “Komyu-Konek” is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to improve the public transport system.

“The instruction of our President is clear: We have to improve the public transport system so that even car owners would be encouraged to commute. That is why we have been conducting aggressive campaigns in that matter and this program will be a big boost to that goal,” Mendoza said during the program’s launch in Marikina City.

The LTFRB’s Komyu-Konek program seeks to facilitate the agency’s reporting process.

It encourages commuters to report abuses through the LTFRB Hotline 0956-761-0739 which is Viber compatible for the sending of photos and videos.

Reports may be also submitted through the agency’s Facebook and X accounts; through email at pacd@ltfrb.gov.ph and complaints@ltfrb.gov.ph; or by personal visits to the LTFRB’s regional offices.

The program’s targets are erring PUV drivers, operators and drivers of dilapidated PUVs, and transport terminals with run-down facilities.

“Passengers deserve more, passengers deserve better transport services,” Mendoza said.

“This is part of our general effort to improve our public transportation system. The assistance and cooperation of the riding public is an integral part in ensuring that this goal is achieved,” he added.

The program came in the wake of the LTFRB’s campaign against dilapidated PUVs and transport terminals in recent weeks.

So far, more than 120 bus and PUV operators have been issued with show cause orders and notices of violation by the agency. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
