BuCor's Catapang orders probe on 'special treatment' for Chinese inmates

BuCor's Catapang orders probe on 'special treatment' for Chinese inmates

Corrections Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. on Tuesday ordered an investigation into allegations that some Chinese who are detained at the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro are being given preferential treatment.

In a statement, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said Catapang views the allegations as a "well-orchestrated demolition job."

Nonetheless, Catapang ordered Deputy Director Al Perreras to inspect the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm this week for transparency and accountability.

Meanwhile, BuCor said SPPF Superintendent Roger Boncales is also denying allegations of a “condotel.”

He said that there are only conjugal rooms for family visits. There are around 30 conjugal rooms inside the SPPF.

Last January, Catapang said Sablayan was being transformed into a supermax facility for high-profile criminals, including those who would be found guilty over anomalous flood control projects— VDV, GMA Integrated News
