Marcos may study 4-day workweek proposal — Palace
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. may consider studying a proposal to adopt a four-day workweek as part of efforts to conserve energy, Malacañang said Wednesday.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said the President could look into the suggestion, particularly if tensions between Israel and Iran worsen.
“Sa ngayon po ay maaaring pag-aralan po ng Pangulo ang ganiyang suhestiyon lalo na kung magiging malala pa po ang nangyayaring Israel-Iran issue. Sa ngayon po ay hindi pa po ito napag-uusapan,” Castro said in a briefing.
(At present, the President may study the suggestion, especially if the Israel-Iran issue escalates. For now, it has not yet been discussed.)
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian earlier proposed a four-day workweek with one work-from-home day to help ease the burden of rising oil prices on the public.
The proposal came after Marcos directed government offices and agencies to find ways to conserve energy amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East that have affected global oil prices.
“We have given instructions to all government offices to find ways to save energy. This is also my call to the public,” Marcos said.
“Let’s find ways to reduce our use of all sources of energy,” he added.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
