BJMP: Alleged ‘threat’ vs Ramil Madriaga’s life stemmed from altercation with fellow PDL
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on Thursday clarified that the alleged threat to the life of Ramil Madriaga stemmed from an altercation with another person deprived of liberty at the Taguig City Jail.
Madriaga is the supposed former aide of Vice President Sara Duterte who claimed that her campaign was funded by drug dealers and Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), which Duterte denied.
In a letter to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Wednesday, Madriaga’s legal counsel said they received information on Tuesday that an inmate allegedly threatened their client's life.
Madriaga’s camp sought the NBI's assistance to confirm the nature of the threat, the identity of the inmate involved, and whether protective measures were undertaken.
The NBI confirmed that the bureau has received the letter.
BJMP spokesperson Jail Superintendent Jayrex Bustinera said Madriaga was in the sunning area when he and another PDL bumped into each other, leading to the altercation, according to a report of Super Radyo dzBB’s Allan Gatus.

Authorities intervened and moved the PDL to a different cell.
Bustinera said the BJMP allowed NBI personnel to speak with the detainees who witnessed the incident for the investigation. NBI personnel were also allowed to be stationed at the jail facility to provide additional security for Madriaga.
According to the BJMP official, authorities are taking the claims by Madriaga’s camp seriously. —RF, GMA Integrated News
