Sara Duterte urges stronger support for women, marginalized groups on Int’l Women’s Day
Vice President Sara Duterte on Sunday called for stronger support for women and marginalized groups as the country marks International Women’s Day.
In a statement, Duterte said that as the country honors the resilience of Filipino women, it is also a time to move beyond praising it.
“Panahon na upang maglatag tayo ng mga sistemang tunay na susuporta sa ating lakas,” Duterte said. "We need real protection for the informal sector, climate-resilient support for our farmers, and genuine access to financing for women entrepreneurs."
(It is time to establish systems that will truly support our strength.)
“Ang pagsuporta sa kababaihan ay hindi lamang pagpapakita ng kabutihang-loob. It is a strategy for inclusive growth,” she added.
(Supporting women is not merely an act of goodwill. It is a strategy for inclusive growth.)
She also urged the public to promote a future where every Filipino woman can lead with dignity and inherit opportunities, not just responsibilities.
Celebrated every March 8, International Women's Day honors the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
It also serves as the call to action to accelerate gender parity. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
