Marcos leaves for US work visit

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday departed the country for a work visit to the United States.

The President left the country at 10:22 a.m.

He will be in the US until Wednesday, March 11.

Department of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Angelica Escalona earlier said Marcos's trip to New York would include high-level engagements at the United Nations (UN), where he would urge parties involved in the Middle East conflict to return to the negotiating table.

According to Escalona, the President will provide a regional perspective, urging restraint and respect for international law and the UN Charter amid the ongoing conflict.

Escalona also said Marcos would meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of his US visit.

He will also participate in the opening of the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
