The Department of Finance (DOF) on Monday announced a four-day on-site workweek as part of the government’s energy conservation efforts amid the conflict in the Middle East.

In a social media post, the DOF said its on-site work schedule will run from Monday to Thursday, while employees will work from home on Fridays.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier announced that starting March 9, 2026, a four-day workweek will be temporarily implemented across offices under the executive department.

He also directed all national government agencies and instrumentalities, including GOCCs, to reduce electricity and fuel consumption by 10% to 20%.

The move comes amid the Middle East conflict, which has disrupted petroleum shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most vital oil export routes.

The strait connects major Gulf oil producers—Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates—with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, making it a critical link for global oil supply.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
