PNP rolls out security for Filipinos’ safety during summer break
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday vowed to ensure the safe travels of Filipinos during the summer break as it launched its “Ligtas SUMVAC 2026,” a nationwide security operation from March 29 to May 31, 2026.
In a statement on Monday, PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police force is fully prepared to keep communities safe during the summer vacation.
“Sa panahon ng bakasyon at Semana Santa, inaasahan natin ang pagdagsa ng mga biyahero at mga pamilyang magtutungo sa mga simbahan at pasyalan. Nais naming tiyakin sa publiko na nakaalerto ang inyong kapulisan upang mapanatiling ligtas at maayos ang kanilang paglalakbay,” Nartatez said.
(During the summer vacation and Holy Week, we expect travelers and families to converge at churches and tourist spots. We want to assure the public that the police force is on alert to ensure that they will have a safe journey.)
“Simple lang naman ang hangarin natin – na maramdaman ng bawat Pilipino na ligtas sila saan man sila magpunta. Police presence will be stronger in transport hubs, highways, and tourist spots to ensure families can travel with confidence,” he added.
(We have a simple objective – to ensure that every Filipino feels that they are safe, wherever they go. Police presence will be stronger in transport hubs, highways, and tourist spots to ensure families can travel with confidence.)
The PNP chief also reminded the public to remain vigilant, secure their belongings, and immediately report suspicious activities to the nearest police officer or station.
The summer security plan will cover major holidays and events during the summer break such as Philippine Veterans Week, Araw ng Kagitingan, Holy Week, Labor Day, and Flores de Mayo when travelers are expected to visit provinces, tourist destinations, and places of worship.
The PNP will begin the deployment of personnel and resources across the country in the coming days, particularly along highways, transport hubs, tourist destinations, and other key areas.
The Highway Patrol Group (HPG) will position road safety marshals along major thoroughfares and inspect bus terminals, while the PNP’s Police Regional Offices (PROs) will intensify mobile patrols and maintain maximum visibility in transport terminals and other public areas.
The PNP will also establish Motorist Assistance Centers along major highways and Police Assistance Desks in churches, airports, seaports, bus terminals, etc.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) will intensify its cyber patrols to monitor and prevent online scams, such as fraudulent travel and accommodation offers targeting vacationers. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
