NUP: No talks with Sandro Marcos, Bojie Dy on Sara Duterte impeachment
House Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno denied Tuesday that the National Unity Party met with Speaker Faustino “Bojie" Dy III or House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos regarding the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.
“Press reports regarding supposed meetings between the National Unity Party and the Speaker or Majority Leader Sandro Marcos are not true,” Puno, NUP chairperson, said in a statement.
“The NUP has not had any talks with the House leadership regarding impeachment, projects, or anything related to such. There are likewise no such talks being planned,” he added.
The Antipolo lawmaker further said that any position to be taken by the NUP on the impeachment will be arrived at only after a discussion among its members and after carefully evaluating the evidence presented.
"It will never be the result of any influence or pressure from anyone,” Puno added.
He earlier said that the NUP will not back a weak impeachment complaint against the Vice President.
The NUP members were among the at least 215 members of the House who voted to impeach of Vice President in February 2025, a case dismissed by the Supreme Court as illegal due to technicalities of violating the one-year bar rule and violation of the Vice President’s right to due process.
The impeachment complaints in 2026 contain the same allegations in the 2025 case: the Vice President committing betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, among others, over the alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential fund, and threat to kill President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and his family, including her desire to remove the head of the chief executive.
The House justice panel already ordered the Vice President to answer the allegations against her within 10 calendar days since the notice was served to her last March 6. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
