Marcos on ICI: Their brief has been fulfilled
''Their brief has already been fulfilled.''
This was the response of President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. when asked about what would happen to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, the body tasked to investigate anomalous flood control projects.
At a press conference in New York City, Marcos was asked if the ICI would be abolished or vacant positions will soon be filled up. While he did not directly answer the question, Marcos said that at present, the independent body is collating their findings to come up with a final report.
''Well, right now what the ICI is doing is that they are collating all of their findings because dadalhin nila – siyempre (they will bring it), they are also writing their final report. I think baka tapos na (maybe it's finished). But the – essentially within – with the ICI itself has made a determination that much of their work has already been done,'' Marcos said.
''And the next part of this process is that they will send those – the information, they will send it to DOJ and the Ombudsman, depending on which is the appropriate body. So, nandoon tayo ngayon (that's where we are right now),'' he added.
''Now, what will happen afterwards is, let us see what else that they can do but for now their brief has already been fulfilled,'' the President said.
Marcos created the ICI in September last year following public outcry over the multi-million corruption of flood control projects in the country.
On January 16, Marcos said the work of the ICI is about to be finished and that it already investigated what needs to be probed in the flood control mess.
At present, the ICI has one commissioner – its chair, retired Justice Andres Reyes Jr.
