DepEd targets promotion of 100K teachers by 2026
The Department of Education (DepEd) is targeting to process over 100,000 promotions for teachers and school heads this year as part of efforts to address long-standing career stagnation in the public school system.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara announced the initiative Friday as he led the oath-taking of 418 newly promoted teachers and school heads in Talisay City, calling it part of the department’s Expanded Career Progression (ECP) system.
“We are ensuring that our teachers receive the recognition and professional growth they deserve,” Angara said.
The program seeks to accelerate career advancement opportunities for educators by streamlining promotion procedures and reducing bureaucratic delays.
Promotion reforms
Under the revised system, DepEd has moved away from the traditional vacancy-based promotion process toward one that also recognizes teachers’ professional development and years of service.
The reform is aimed at removing bottlenecks that have historically slowed down promotions across the country’s public school system.
Officials said supporting teachers’ career growth is part of broader education reforms under the administration of Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
School visit in Toledo
Following the ceremony, Angara also visited South City Central Elementary School in Toledo City, where he inspected a newly constructed Special Education (SPED) building and Special Science programs.
The two-storey SPED facility, funded by the local government through its Special Education Fund, contains four classrooms and serves more than 1,900 learners, according to DepEd.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
