The Marcos administration has reaffirmed its support for the local government unit (LGUs) as Executive Secretary Ralph Recto delivered his speech during the 2026 general assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP).

Recto represented President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during LMP’s general assembly on Tuesday in Pasay City.

The event gathered mayors and municipal officials nationwide to discuss local governance issues and review government programs affecting their communities.

National President Mayor Faustino "Inno" Dy V expressed gratitude for the Local Government Support Fund, which provides direct financial assistance to municipalities for infrastructure projects, public services, and development programs.

The LMP also presented to Recto its policy recommendations on the proposed reforms to the Local Government Code.

On the same day, participants conducted a plenary session discussing building sustainable and inclusive municipalities.

This covers local economic development, health and nutrition, education, climate and disaster resilience, and e-governance & digital transformation.

It was also attended by representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways, European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, PhilHealth, World Surgical Philippines, and the private sector. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
