Palace releases issuance on March 20 regular holiday for Eid’l Fitr

Malacañang has published the official issuance that proclaimed March 20, Friday as a regular holiday throughout the Philippines in observance of Eid’l Fitr to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Proclamation 1189 was signed on March 12 by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto and published on the Official Gazette website.

The proclamation noted that the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) recommended the declaration of March 20, Friday or March 21, Saturday as a national holiday to mark Eid’l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadhan.

“In order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, and to allow the entire Filipino nation to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance of Eidl’l Fitr, it is necessary to declare 20 March 2026, Friday, a regular holiday, throughout the country,” it said.

Last week, Malacañang said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared March 20 as a regular holiday across the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr.

Marcos joined the members and leaders of the Muslim community on March 12 at the Grand Iftar, which the Palace said reaffirmed the government’s respect for the traditions and contributions of the Filipino Muslim community.

“The declaration recognizes the significance of Eid’l Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, a period devoted to prayer, reflection, and fasting,” the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) then said in a statement. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
