AFP dismisses online posts on alleged 'coup plotters,' 'Third Force'
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Monday dismissed circulating social media posts claiming the existence of alleged “coup plotters” and so-called “Third Force.”
In a statement, AFP public affairs office chief Colonel Xerxes Trinidad said the military organization “does not dignify unvalidated social media posts.”
“The AFP remains focused on its constitutional mandate and the faithful performance of its duty as protector of the people and the State.”
He made the statement when asked about social media posts linking the tightened security around Malacañang Palace to groups allegedly starting moves to overthrow the government.
“At a time when our nation must remain united in addressing the possible effects of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, we call on all Filipinos to exercise sobriety, reject disinformation, and refrain from spreading unverified claims that may cause confusion and division,” Trinidad said.
“The AFP is a professional organization that upholds the Constitution, respects the chain of command, and remains steadfast in its duty to defend Philippine sovereignty, protect the people, and uphold the rule of law,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Manila Police District (MPD) Police Major Philippines said the increased police deployment observed around the Palace was just part of basic security measures in light of expected rallies. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
