The Department of National Defense (DND) has not received any information regarding an alleged coup plot, according to Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. on Tuesday.

“Wala (Nothing),” Teodoro said in an ambush interview.

He made the statement when asked about social media posts about alleged “coup plotters” and aso-called “Third Force” which are allegedly preparing to overthrow the government.

“Alam niyo, as responsible citizens, why don’t they execute the proper affidavit and file it with the law enforcement and prosecutorial officials? So it can be investigated properly kung meron talagang ebidensya” Teodoro said.

(You know, as responsible citizens, why don't they execute the proper affidavit and file it with the law enforcement and prosecutorial officials? So it can be investigated properly if there is really evidence.)

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) earlier dismissed the circulating social media posts.

AFP public affairs office chief Colonel Xerxes Trinidad said the military organization “does not dignify unvalidated social media posts.”

“The AFP remains focused on its constitutional mandate and the faithful performance of its duty as protector of the people and the State.”

According to the Manila Police District (MPD),  the increased police deployment observed around the Palace was just part of basic security measures in light of expected rallies.

Trinidad said, “At a time when our nation must remain united in addressing the possible effects of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, we call on all Filipinos to exercise sobriety, reject disinformation, and refrain from spreading unverified claims that may cause confusion and division.)

“The AFP is a professional organization that upholds the Constitution, respects the chain of command, and remains steadfast in its duty to defend Philippine sovereignty, protect the people, and uphold the rule of law.) —RF, GMA Integrated News
