Ex-DENR chief Loyzaga appointed as special envoy for disaster management
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. has appointed former Environment Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga as Special Envoy for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM).
Loyzaga took her oath during a ceremony at Malacañang Palace on Wednesday.
Marcos congratulated Loyzaga on her latest appointment and expressed appreciation for her acceptance of the role, citing her extensive expertise when it comes to disaster resilience management.
He also conveyed his full support for the new special envoy as she advances the administration’s agenda on climate action, renewable energy integration, and disaster risk reduction.
Marcos is confident that Loyzaga will champion sound environmental governance and help build a more resilient Philippines.
Loyzaga was the chief of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources from July 2022 to May 2025.
She also served as a director at the United Nations International Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies for two years.
In addition, Loyzaga joined the UNDRR Asia Pacific Science and Technology Advisory Group and served as president of the National Resilience Council.
She also served as executive director of the Manila Observatory from 2007 to 2016. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
