No tsunami threat following strong Japan quake, says PHIVOLCS

There is no tsunami threat to the country following the recorded magnitude 6.5 earthquake off the coast of Sanriku in Japan, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The earthquake in Japan occurred at 10:18 p.m. off the coast of Sanriku, Japan with a depth of 10 kilomters.

After evaluation, the PHIVOLCS said "No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake."
