Transport strike vs fuel price surge resumes on Day 2
A coalition of transport groups on Friday proceeded with the second day of its nationwide strike as a protest against the rising fuel prices linked to the Middle East tensions.
The strike, which started Thursday, involves transport workers from multiple sectors, including jeepneys, buses, UV Express units, transport network vehicle services (TNVS), and motorcycle taxis.
For the second day of the strike, several protest activities are scheduled across Metro Manila.
In Quezon City, transport groups will gather at a fast-food outlet along Aurora Boulevard in Cubao at 8 a.m. This will be followed by another program near a gasoline station along Commonwealth Avenue in Philcoa at 10 a.m.
In the CAMANAVA area, a separate protest will be held at Monumento Circle in Caloocan City starting at 8 a.m.
Urban poor group Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (KADAMAY) will also stage its “Kalbaryo ng Mamamayan” at multiple stops, including Tatalon and E. Rodriguez Avenue.
Meanwhile, TNVS groups are expected to hold a motorcade beginning at University Avenue in UP Diliman at 10 a.m.
All participating groups are scheduled to converge at Welcome Rotonda at noon for a coalition program before proceeding to Mendiola at 1 p.m. for the main protest action.
