PNP: Closed gas stations due to rising fuel prices down to 365
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said the number of gas stations that have temporarily closed amid rising fuel prices has gone down to 365.
At a press briefing, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said authorities are continuously monitoring a total of 14,519 establishments across the country.
“Noong March 29, ito ay 369 at ngayong March 30, ito ay 365 (From 369 on March 29, it is now down to 365),” Tuaño said.
On Friday, the number of closed gas stations reached 425.
The PNP said the decrease indicates that some gas stations have resumed operations after replenishing their fuel supply.
Tuaño added that closures were mainly due to a lack of fuel stocks.
The PNP is coordinating with the Department of Energy (DOE) to validate supply concerns and ensure compliance among fuel retailers.
Earlier, the PNP said the DOE tapped the police organization to help enforce regulations, particularly by monitoring gasoline stations that either refuse to sell fuel or impose unauthorized price hikes.
Police presence has increased in fuel stations, supply depots, and other critical infrastructure to deter illegal activities and ensure continued access to essential services.
The PNP urged the public to continue normal activities, practice responsible fuel use, and rely on official channels for updates.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
