PNP on heightened alert for Holy Week 2026
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed its organization on heightened alert in anticipation of a surge in travelers during the Holy Week.
At a press briefing on Holy Monday, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said the heightened alert status took effect on Palm Sunday and will remain in place until April 6.
Nearly 60,000 personnel, including uniformed officers and force multipliers, have been deployed nationwide.
“Ang deployment natin po ay nanatiling halos 40,000 sa PNP at iyong augmentation and advocacy groups, ito po yung mga support groups natin, halos 30,000,” he added.
(Our deployment remains at almost 40,000 from the PNP, while augmentation and advocacy groups—our support groups—number around 30,000.)
The PNP said the deployment aims to secure transport hubs, major roads, and other key areas as more Filipinos travel to the provinces for the Holy Week break.
Authorities are also maintaining visibility in areas with high foot traffic to prevent crimes and enable quicker response to emergencies.
The PNP is focusing its security efforts on around 3,200 tourist destinations across the country.
Earlier, the PNP said no specific threats have been monitored so far, including in churches.
The agency also noted that tourist volume may decline due to rising fuel prices and travel costs stemming from tensions in the Middle East.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
