The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has placed all its operated airports on heightened alert, as it said it expects 550,000 passengers across all its operated airports during the Holy Week period.

In an advisory, CAAP said it is looking at a 7% to 10% increase in passenger traffic this Holy Week from 505,511 passengers recorded in the same period last year, as April 2, Maundy Thursday, and April 3, Good Friday, have been declared regular holidays.

With the heightened alert, all area and airport managers are directed to implement heightened operational readiness measures such as increased deployment of personnel, more strict protocols, and continuous monitoring of passenger movement.

The CAAP has also reminded passengers to arrive at the airport at least two to three hours before their scheduled departure.

“We want to assure the public that all CAAP-operated airports are fully prepared to handle the surge in passenger volume, with measures in place to ensure safe, smooth, and convenient travel for all,” CAAP director general retired Lt. Gen. Raul del Rosario said.
