PNP: 740 personnel faced admin sanctions in Q1 of 2026

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday vowed to sternly enforce discipline and uphold integrity in its ranks amid President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for the PNP not to tolerate corruption and human rights abuses.

In a statement, the PNP highlighted its efforts towards accountability, particularly the 740 personnel who faced administrative sanctions from January 1 to March 25 of this year.

Of this figure, 232 were dismissed from the service, 36 were demoted, and 333 were suspended. Others were penalized through forfeiture of salary, reprimand, restriction, and withholding of privileges.

PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said Marcos’ message at the commencement exercises of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) last week reinforced the police force’s current direction and resolve to cleanse its ranks.

Marcos, in calling for a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and human rights abuses in the PNP, stressed that “there is no room in this profession for those who bend or break the law.”

“Malinaw ang mensahe ng ating Pangulo – ang integridad ay hindi puwedeng pag-usapan lang, dapat isinasabuhay (The President’s message is clear – integrity is not just a topic of conversation, but it should be lived.) We take this as a continuing mandate to enforce discipline and to make sure that those who violate the law have no place in the organization,” Nartatez said.

He added that the figures on administrative cases show that the PNP is not hesitating to act against its own personnel to uphold the police force’s credibility.

“Hindi natin kinukunsinti ang mali. Patuloy nating pinapanagot ang mga lumalabag, anuman ang ranggo (We do not condone wrongs. We continue to hold violators accountable, regardless of rank). This is how we rebuild trust – through real action, not just words,” Nartatez said.

He also called on the new PNPA graduates to serve as examples of professionalism and accountability.

“Panatilihin ninyo ang disiplina at katapatan sa inyong serbisyo (Ensure that you are disciplined and faithful to your duty). The future of the PNP depends on leaders who will stand firm on what is right,” Nartatez said.

On Sunday, the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) vowed to continue strengthening its disciplinary mechanisms and investigative processes in support of Marcos’ call, adding that it will also “work closely with the PNP and concerned agencies to ensure that erring personnel are held accountable swiftly and fairly.” — JMA, GMA News
