DOJ plantilla positions climb to almost 4k in 2026

The plantilla positions in the Department of Justice have increased to almost 4,000 in 2026 to ensure the proper delivery of its services, Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida said.

According to Vida, the plantilla positions increased to 3,968 in March 2026. He said there were 3,240 plantilla positions in 2024; 3,025 in 2023; and 2,883 in 2022.

“Alam ninyo ba dati meron pa kaming prosecution office, marami ha, several, na iisa ang piskal. Siya ang magdraft, siya ang magre-review, siya din ang mag a-approve, di ba?” the DOJ chief said in a briefing Tuesday.

(Did you know that before we even had prosecution offices, many of them, several, that had only one prosecutor. He was the one who drafted, he was the one who reviewed, and he was also the one who approved.)

“We ensured that with the creation of the new plantilla positions, the offices will be properly manned and the service will be properly delivered to our constituents,” he added.

Vida said the DOJ is eyeing to increase its positions to 4,500 by 2028.

“At the end of the day, better performance translate to efficient and effective delivery of public service, and numbers will not lie,” he said.

Case resolution

The DOJ secretary said that the department’s disposition rate has also improved from 92.95% in 2022 to 99.77% in 2025.

Meanwhile, the department’s prosecution rate increased from 89.94% to 90.84% in the same period.

According to the DOJ, it has resolved a total of 1,621,721 complaints.

“Of course, there are challenges still being faced by the department as of this time, and we intend to make good in all this, no?” he said.
