Accused in Camarines Sur child's letter to Marcos already detained — PNP
The accused who allegedly abused the girl who recently sought the help of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has been in detention since 2023, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.
In a statement, PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said authorities conducted on-site verification in Camarines Sur following the viral post.
“Based on the verification, the concerns raised involve alleged harassment, community safety issues, and a previous rape case,” Nartatez said.
“Police records show that the rape case was filed in 2023 and is currently under trial at the Regional Trial Court, with the accused already in detention at Tinangis Penal Farm,” he added.
In her March 30 letter, the 11-year-old girl made allegations of rape committed by a kagawad’s son and aide, as well as threats and harassment against children in their community.
She appealed for protection and the opportunity to continue her schooling safely, noting that they were being victimized despite having no involvement in politics.
Marcos earlier said the letter angered him and affected him emotionally. He said authorities would investigate those responsible and support the victims, including helping them continue their education.
“Your letter has reached me and brought me close to tears and made me very angry. I am sending policemen to you and your sisters to protect you and to find anyone who has hurt any of you,” Marcos earlier said.
“I will make sure that you will be able to continue reading and studying as much as you want. You are a very brave, intelligent, and very kind girl and I will make sure to help you and your sisters in any way you need,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) confirmed that the student and other minors involved have been located and are now under the care of social workers.
