DOLE: Double pay for workers on duty on Maundy Thursday
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reminded employers to grant double pay, or 200% of the regular daily wage, to workers on duty on Maundy Thursday.
In a Labor Advisory, the DOLE said that workers on duty are entitled to double pay because Maundy Thursday is a regular holiday.
Likewise, an employee not on duty on a regular holiday such as Maundy Thursday remains entitled to 100% of their daily wage, provided they are present or on approved leave with pay on the workday immediately preceding the holiday.
When the day immediately preceding the regular holiday is a non-working day in the establishment or the scheduled rest day of the employee, he or she will be entitled to holiday pay if the employee reports to work or is on leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the non- working day or rest day.
For work done in excess of eight hours during a regular holiday that also falls on the employee's rest day, the employer is mandated to pay the employee an additional 30% of the hourly rate on said day.
