PNP: 375 gas stations still closed due to supply shortage
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Maundy Thursday said 375 gas stations remain temporarily closed due to a shortage of petroleum products.
In a statement from the PNP-Public Information Office, the PNP said it continues to monitor the ongoing oil crisis as it maintains a full alert status since March 31, with over 98,000 cops deployed nationwide for Holy Week and Summer Vacation (SUMVAC) 2026 security.
“As of April 2, 2026, out of 14,519 gas stations, 375 remain temporarily closed due to non-delivery of petroleum products. Some stations have reopened after restocking, while the PNP remains vigilant against profiteering, hoarding, and other unlawful activities. Nine cases have been filed, with others under case build-up across various regions,” the PNP said.
"Sa kabila ng ating mahigpit na pagbabantay sa seguridad ngayong Semana Santa, patuloy kaming nakikipag-ugnayan sa DOE, Municipal Price Coordinating Council at iba pang ahensya para masiguro ang maayos na supply at maiwasan ang anumang aberya sa publiko," said Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., the head of the PNP.
(Aside from maintaining security this Holy Week, we continue to coordinate with the Department of Energy, Municipal Price Coordinating Council and other agencies to ensure the steady supply and to prevent problems to the public.)
He added, "We also remind business owners to comply with the law and not to hoard or overprice fuel. Ang hindi pagsunod sa batas ay may kaakibat na pananagutan (Violating the law has a corresponding penalty)."
The PNP urgec the public to report any illegal or unethical practices related to fuel supply and pricing to the nearest police station, call unified 911, or use the official PNP hotline. —RF, GMA News
