Manila Archdiocese urges clergy for world peace intentions on Good Friday
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila (RCAM) has urged the clergy and the lay faithful to include a special intention for world peace during Good Friday rites.
In a circular dated April 1, Manila Archbishop José Cardinal Advincula asked all parishes and communities to include in the general intercessions during the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion an additional intention for world peace.
“During the celebration of the Lord’s Passion on Good Friday, I request all parishes and communities to pay an additional intention for world peace,” said Advincula.
Advincula said Paschalis Solemnitatis, a Vatican liturgical guideline, provides that the Diocesan Bishop may prescribe additional special intentions “in case of grave public necessity”.
The Archbishop’s call echoes recent appeals from the Vatican for peace, as Pope Leo XIV, presiding over the Palm Sunday Mass at St. Peter’s Square, delivered a powerful message highlighting Jesus as the King of Peace who rejects violence and refuses to heed the prayers of those who promote war and suffering. —LDF, GMA News
