Raffy Tulfo expresses concern over NAIA Terminal 1 ceiling collapse

Senator Raffy Tulfo on Saturday expressed concern over the reported collapse of a portion of a ceiling at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 arrival extension area, which left seven people injured.

Tulfo, who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Services, said he has coordinated with Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Lopez to check on the condition of the victims and ensure they are receiving proper assistance.

The senator then emphasized the importance of a swift response in such incidents in ensuring the safety of those affected and providing them with immediate and adequate assistance.

While operations at NAIA Terminal 1 have since returned to normal, Tulfo called on the DOTr and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to remain proactive in enforcing safety standards across all airport facilities nationwide.

Meanwhile, Lopez told the senator that a thorough investigation into the incident is underway. He also committed to providing updates as soon as findings and other relevant information become available.

In a statement following the incident, the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) said that its medical team, airport security personnel, and the PNP Aviation Security Group immediately responded to the incident and cordoned off the area.

Inspections have since been conducted to ensure that the area is safe for normal operations.

“Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident. NNIC is working closely with the relevant authorities and will take the necessary action based on the findings,” it said.

“NNIC continues to provide all necessary assistance to those involved. The safety and well-being of passengers, airport workers, and visitors remain its top priority,” it added. —VAL, GMA News
