Government pursuing amendments to Local Government Code, Marcos says
The Philippine government is pursuing the necessary measures to amend the Local Government Code to improve the fiscal capabilities of local government units, President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. said Monday.
Marcos issued the remarks during the oathtaking ceremony of the Vice Mayors' League of the Philippines National Executive Officers.
''In collaboration with the ULAP, the DILG, and the DEPDev, we are pursuing necessary amendments to the Local Government Code that clarify the responsibility, strengthen the accountability, and enhance the fiscal capacities of LGUs,'' Marcos said in his speech.
''In parallel, we are improving coordination between national and local government units. We are supporting LGUs in digitalizing both frontline services and also the back-end systems,'' he added.
The President mentioned the enactment of the Automatic Income Classification of Local Government Units Act, which institutionalizes the automatic classification of LGUs by income.
The President also said the government must clearly define the responsibilities of the national and local governments.
Marcos administered the oath of office to the newly elected National Executive Officers of the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines (VMLP) at the President’s Hall in Malacañang Palace.
Founded in 1988, the VMLP is an organization of all vice mayors from cities and municipalities nationwide and serves as a platform for collaboration and the promotion of effective local governance.
It currently has 1,634 members, with its national officers elected at large for a three-year term. —LDF, GMA News
