Marcos leads UPLIFT meeting to review reco on fuel excise tax suspension

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Tuesday presided over the UPLIFT committee meeting to review recommendations on the possible suspension of excise tax on petroleum products.

Marcos met with key Cabinet officials including Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian, and Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, among others.

They discussed additional measures which seek to deliver faster relief and cushion the impact of rising oil prices on Filipino commuters, workers, and families.

Malacañang has yet to provide further details on Marcos' decision regarding the recommendations of the Development Budget Coordination Committee (DBCC)

The UPLIFT program was established after Marcos declared a state of national energy emergency on March 24, 2026, to ensure energy supply stability, support key sectors such as transport, agriculture, and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and protect Filipinos amid global oil supply disruptions. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
