LIST: Prices of agri goods before and amid Middle East conflict

Prices of some basic agricultural commodities increased and decreased following the tensions in the Middle East, according to the Department of Agriculture on Wednesday.

At a Senate hearing, the DA presented the prices of these agricultural goods before and now:

  • Carrots - from P100 to P150
  • Pork ham (local) - from P350 to P360
  • Pork belly (local) - from P370 to P380
  • Chicken (local) - from P200 to P180
  • Tomato - from P80 to P60
  • Well-milled rice (local) - from P45 to P45
  • Chicken egg (M) - from P8 to P8
  • Eggplant - from P80 to P80
  • Cabbage (Scorpio) - from P80 to P80

"The biggest commodity that experienced an increase in price almost 50% from the pre-conflict is carrots. Followed by the pork, kasim, and liempo," DA Assistant Secretary U-Nichols Manalo said.

"Yung commodities that experienced a decrease in the prices relative to retail ay ang tomato as well as 'yung chicken po natin," he added.

According to DA, simulations indicate that increases in fuel prices lead to higher retail food prices.

To curb the impact, the DA provides billions worth of funding and support for affected stakeholders such as farmers and fishers.

"Fuel assistance, ito po 'yung sinasabi natin na P150 million but the P50 million is still under the late release," he said.

"The P10 billion fund coming from the GAA of this year, as well as we already submitted a request of P7 billion under the RCEF Rice Farmers Financial Assistance, but this is not yet funded," he added.—AOL, GMA News
