DOH receives TB meds, X-ray machines from US State Dep’t

The Department of Health (DOH) and the US Department of State have partnered up to strengthen tuberculosis (TB) detection and treatment in the Philippines.

According to the DOH on Wednesday, the State Department handed over to it enough TB medicine for 230,000 patients, as well as 12 ultraportable X-ray machines.

“Kaugnay nito ang pakikipagkasundo para sa katuparan ng Strategic Objective Agreement ngayong taon na mas pagtitibayin ang pagtutulungan ng dalawang bansa para sa pagtataguyod ng kalusugan ng mga Pilipino,” read the statement.

(This is in line with the agreement for the Strategic Objective Agreement this year to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries for the health of Filipinos.)

In March, DOH reported 101,807 TB cases in Metro Manila as of February 16.

DOH pushed for early detection, prompt treatment, and prevention as advocacies against tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis remains the world’s most infectious killer, causing up to 1.23 million deaths worldwide in 2024 according to the World Health Organization (WHO). — Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/BM, GMA News
