US Embassy warns American citizens on Araw ng Kagitingan protest
The US Embassy in the Philippines cautioned American citizens about a rally set to take place near the embassy premises on Thursday, April 9 as the country observes Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor).
According to an advisory posted on Wednesday, demonstrators will assemble at Kalaw Avenue and head towards the embassy along Roxas Boulevard by 9:30 a.m.
“The embassy has not received any credible threats of violence or observed any indications of potential unrest. Protests near the embassy have historically been peaceful,” the US Embassy said.
The advisory reminded US citizens to avoid political demonstrations and large gatherings, adding that foreigners found engaging in a protest could be considered in violation of their immigration status.
The US Embassy will be closed on Thursday with no operations as Araw ng Kagitingan is a regular holiday. — JMA, GMA News
