Defense chief Teodoro to Filipinos: Choose PH amid territorial threats, external conflicts
Defense Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. on Thursday called on Filipinos to “choose the Republic” as the country faces growing territorial threats and the effects of external conflicts.
“Today, the Philippines confronts growing threats to its sovereignty and territorial integrity, while conflicts beyond our shores affect the safety and well-being of our people,” Teodoro said in his message for Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor).
“In the face of these challenges, we enjoin our fellow Filipinos to ‘choose the Republic’. May the valor of those who came before us strengthen our resolve to defend our country, uphold our national interests, and protect our way of life,” he added.
The Defense chief also paid tribute to members of the armed forces and other uniformed personnel who continue to safeguard the nation’s peace and stability.
Meanwhile, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said that his organization will continue the legacy of heroes who stood firm in the face of adversity.
“As members of the PNP, we continue this legacy by performing our duties with integrity, compassion, and excellence. Every life we safeguard, every act of service we extend, is a tribute to the bravery of those who came before us,” Nartatez said.
“Let us celebrate their legacy by serving with pride, building safer communities, and inspiring hope in every Filipino we protect. Their courage lights our way, showing that even small acts of service can make a meaningful difference,” he added.
The Philippines on Thursday marks the 84th Araw ng Kagitingan or Day of Valor.
The occasion commemorates the Fall of Bataan on April 9, 1942 to remember the thousands of Filipinos and Americans who dedicated their lives to defend the Philippines against invading Japanese forces during World War II. —RF, GMA News
