Gloria Arroyo denies alleged coup plot vs. Speaker Dy

Former President and Pampanga Second District Rep. Gloria Arroyo on Friday denied reports of supposed efforts to unseat Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III as House Speaker.

“I categorically deny the allegations concerning the supposed ouster of Speaker Bojie Dy that surfaced yesterday," Arroyo said in a statement.

"I reaffirm my confidence in his leadership of the House of Representatives. Our mutual support, which began many years ago with his late father, remains unbroken,” she added.

Arroyo last served as House Speaker from 2018 to 2019. 

Her rise to Speakership then was a coup against then Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez of Davao de Norte as she unseated Alvarez ahead of then President Rodrigo Duterte's third State of the Nation Address (SONA). —VAL, GMA News
