PCO to create website where public can report fake news

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) will create a website where the public can report the proliferation and incidents of fake news, particularly on social media.

"At inaanyayahan na rin po namin–, gagawa po ang PCO ng isang website o isang platform kung saan ninyo po isusumbong lahat ng fake news na nagkakalat at iyan po ay hindi namin tutulungan at lahat po iyan ay dapat na sampahan ng kaso. Inuulit po natin, fake news," Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said during Friday's briefing.

(We are inviting the public. The PCO will create a website or platform where the public can report the spread of fake news. Rest assured, we won't sleep on these cases. Culpable parties should be charged. We repeat, fake news.)

PCO Acting Secretary Dave Gomez earlier said the surge of disinformation on social media, particularly about the health of the President, was meant to destabilize the government.

He said the PCO's Anti-Fake News Desk has detected a sudden and coordinated surge in disinformation across social media, noting that even the mainstream media "have fallen victim to this vicious attack of the trolls."

Gomez also reiterated that the agency has been tracking and documenting every post, every comment, and every lie, noting that proper complaints could be filed by next week.

"Each one is a piece of evidence we can use in court. We will identify the perpetrators, trace their networks, and file the proper charges in court once the evidence is complete hopefully by next week," Gomez had said. — VDV, GMA News
