DOLE launches TUPAD Tuloy Pasada for jeepney drivers amid high fuel prices

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Monday rolled out its “TUPAD Tuloy Pasada” program for additional income for jeepney drivers amid rising pump prices.

Under the program, an initial 134 jeepney drivers plying selected routes in Metro Manila will receive P695 per day, which is equivalent to the region's minimum wage, GMA News’ James Agustin reported on Unang Balita.

The amount is on top of the beneficiaries’ regular earnings from daily operations.

TUPAD Tuloy Pasada is part of DOLE’s effort to ease the impact of fuel price hikes on public utility drivers (PUVs).

Beneficiaries were identified through profiling and validation conducted by DOLE. The initial list was sourced from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Drivers who are not yet included may apply at the nearest DOLE office by presenting a valid professional driver’s license.

Each qualified driver may receive assistance for up to 30 days.

The government targets to support around 50,000 drivers nationwide as the program expands beyond Metro Manila.

DOLE said the program will eventually extend to other affected sectors including truck drivers who deliver agricultural products.

While beneficiaries welcomed the program, they pointed out that a long-term solution is still needed, particularly reduction in fuel prices.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA News
