House panel issues subpoena vs Sonny Trillanes
The House Committee on Justice on Tuesday issued a subpoena directing former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV to testify at the next hearing on the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
During the proceedings, Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima moved for the issuance of a subpoena ad testificandum and duces tecum against Trillanes.
It required him to appear at the April 22 hearing and submit documents related to Duterte’s alleged ill-gotten wealth and the non-disclosure of assets in her Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).
“I respectfully move for the issuance of a subpoena ad testificandum and duces tecum to former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, requiring him to appear at the next hearing on April 22, 2026, and produce documents relative to the alleged ill-gotten wealth and non-disclosure of assets in the SALNs of the Vice President,” De Lima said.
De Lima said Trillanes’ testimony would be “very relevant,” noting that he was cited in the third impeachment complaint against the Vice President and had previously testified in House Quad Committee hearings on the drug war.
The panel approved the motion.
AMLC
The committee also issued a subpoena against the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), directing it to appear at the next hearing and submit documents on bank transactions involving Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, from 2006 to 2025.
Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña moved for the issuance of a subpoena duces tecum and ad testificandum, seeking reports on covered and suspicious transactions filed by banks with the AMLC, as well as any related investigation reports.
He also requested that the documents be submitted to the committee on or before April 22 for prior review, or that the AMLC certify if no such records exist.
The motion was also approved by the panel.
