LTO extends validity of licenses, car registration expiring in April 2026

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has extended the validity of licenses and motor vehicle registration expiring in April 2026 for another three months amid the Middle East crisis.

Memorandum Circular 2026-5048 also states that no surcharges, penalties, or fines will be imposed for late renewal of the documents during the extension.

"In line with the directive of President Marcos Jr. and pursuant to the declaration of a State of National Energy Emergency, the LTO announces the extension of validity for documents expiring beginning April 2026 for a period of three months," the LTO said.

"This measure aims to ease the burden of the public amid the rising costs of fuel and basic commodities, giving motorists sufficient time to comply without additional financial strain," it said.

The directive is in line with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s declaration of a state of national energy emergency, the LTO added.

The following are covered by the extension:

  • Driver's and Conductor's Licenses
  • Student-Driver's Permits
  • Motor Vehicle Registration
