There were 4,277 newly reported cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) for the fourth quarter of 2025, according to data from the Department of Health (DOH).

Based on the report, the cases were mostly male patients with 4,038 while there are only 239 female patients.

Patients aged 25 to 34 years old made up majority of the newly reported cases with 45% of 1,929 cases, followed by 15 to 24 year-olds with 32% or 1,361 cases.

Alarmingly, there were 15 patients below 15 years old.

Compared to the third quarter, there was a decrease of newly reported cases from 5,583 from July to September of 2025.

October to December of 2025 saw 47 quarter average cases per day, and there were a total of 1,069 patients with advance HIV disease as of said reporting period.

With the recent numbers, the total reported cases of HIV climbed up to 163,454 between January 1984 and December 2025.

The Health department also reported, however, that patients have been actively seeking help, with 4,760 clients newly enrolled for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).

The country’s current 95-95-95 accomplishment level is at 61% diagnosed, 66% on treatment, and 57% with a suppressed viral load.

In December, DOH called HIV an “evolving” epidemic and noted that current HIV numbers may climb to more than 457,000 by 2030 if left unmanaged.

The health bureau raised alarm over the rapid spread of HIV among the youth in February 2025 after cases increased by 500%.

"Five hundred percent increase po tayo ng HIV cases sa mga edad 15 hanggang 25. In fact, ang pinakabatang na-diagnose natin ay batang 12-anyos sa probinsiya ng Palawan," said Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa in June 2025.

"Sa datos natin tayo na ang pinakamataas na new cases sa Western Pacific Region. Ang nakakatakot lang maraming new cases sa ating kabataan," he added.
