287 gas stations closed, 77 arrested in fuel-related violations —PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said 287 gasoline stations have been closed while 77 individuals were arrested in connection with fuel-related violations amid high pump prices.

“Bumaba na sa 287 ang gasoline stations na nagsara na,” PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said at a press briefing.

(The number of gasoline stations that have closed has dropped to 287.)

The PNP has been monitoring 14,529 gas stations nationwide, according to Tuaño.

Meanwhile, Tuaño said 31 cases have been filed against fuel-related violations, leading to the arrest of 77 individuals.

Most of the violations involved hoarding.

Earlier, the PNP said the Department of Energy (DOE) tapped the police to help enforce regulations by monitoring gasoline stations that either refuse to sell fuel or impose unauthorized price hikes.

Police presence has increased in fuel stations, supply depots, and other critical infrastructure to deter illegal activities and ensure continued access to essential services.

The PNP earlier reminded the public to stay informed and vigilant, especially as ongoing global tensions continue to affect oil production and distribution, with corresponding impact on local supply.

Reports of suspicious activities such as illegal fuel storage, overpricing, and unauthorized selling should be immediately brought to the attention of authorities, the PNP said. —VAL, GMA News
